Thank you, everyone, for a great year!
Hey everyone, I found this webpage that shows some different wood joints. I think this could be useful for future projects that include making box enclosures or any other joint. My favorite is the Through Dovetail Joint.

Hey all, first I also wanted to congratulate everyone for finishing the year.
I recently found out that my stepdad still has a reasonably high end welding setup from where he used to work. If I wanted to pick it up as a skill, does anyone have any ideas for projects I could do involving welding?
My cousin made his own hammock holder by welding together perforated square tubes that looked similar to this: hyperurl.co/aj8w3p. For a beginner project you could potentially make this https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Industrial-Pencil-Holder/.
Congrats on everyone getting through Senior Design. Thanks for the great COP meetings!
Does anyone know any places to get laser cut or 3D printed modules outside of our campus?
Thanks for your help and congratulations to all of us for completing the senior design class. I wish you all the best in your future work and study!

Class was really fun.
I forgot where it was but
my spirit was there.
Thanks for a great year! Glad that we’re finally done with senior design 🙂
Congratulations to all of us for graduating. Thank you for sharing a lot of ideas in one year and for giving me a lot of help.
This is a nice post haha^^ I did not provide any idea, but I just want to thank you for small talk with me haha
Thanks for a great year and congratulations on making it this far, everyone! Don’t forget that the Professional Development assignment is due this Friday, May 31, so be sure to get all the requirements for it done by then.
Congratulation for those of you who will graduate in this term. Just a reminder that your OSU account will be deactivated after one year since graduation, so don’t forget to move important things to your own google drive.
Hi guys, does anyone know of any good methods for making sure long acrylic enclosure walls aren’t too bendy?
Thicker walls brother.
I think you should use thicker acrylic. I know that kelly does 3mm acrylic and 5mm acrylic. Maybe go with the 5 if you aren’t already doing so.
our project needs to design an enclosure with good cooling. I want to add lots of small with less 3 mm diameter. 3D printing is not good enough to get that hole, we drilled the hole by ourselves.
If anyone is trying to make their electronics water resistant from condensation, there are different sprays you could purchase. Here is an article on the different types of sprays you could you use: https://yourstory.com/mystory/81e12248f6-top-4-waterproofing-solutions-for-your-gadgets-electronics-
I think TEKbots has a file size limitation when submitting the design files, so it is probably best to split them up into smaller files for individual submission.
I’ve done most of my enclosure’s work, but it’s important that it’s waterproof. However, our Box can be opened from the top, which indicates that the system itself is not sealed. How to waterproof is our next consideration. So I hope to have some suggestions.
We have this same issue to if anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.
Hey everyone,
I recently discovered that KiCad has a 3D viewer within PcbNew. It is under the View drop down menu and the 3D Viewer option. I think it’s possible to export the 3D model to use as a reference when designing your enclosure. Here is a link to an old video showcasing the 3D Viewer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3it8wyJef0
This is really cool! It’s useful for making sure input ports line up on your enclosure, because if they’re off a little bit it can hurt the entire project.
Recently, I finished my enclosure design for my project with SolidWorks. The link of the picture is down below. This enclosure is designed for Flowmeter module which is a sub-system of our capstone project (LOOM project, Team 6). The module is using to measure the flow rate of giving liquid flow.
Does anyone know the recommended sizes for 3D-printing via the Tekbots store? Our group was trying to print 15mm x 5mm x 5mm blocks and was told it they were too small.
I would like to recommend two 3D modeling software, SketchUp and AutoCAD. They both have student version. SketchUp is very easy to learn and pretty good for simple enclosure design. AutoCAD takes more time to learn but has more functions than SketchUp.
Hi Zeyu,
I’d like to learn AutoCAD. Do you have any recommended study material? Or just search on youtube? Bty, do you use AutoCAD in ECE 423 course? Thank you very much.
For laser cutting would it be better to split up some of the parts into separate files or have all the parts on one file?
Would anyone be interested in learning the basic physics of how a motor works? I know that last term we had a guest speaker that discussed the different kinds of motors and their optimal applications, but he didn’t really get into the internal workings. I’m taking Motors – ECE 331 – this term, so if anyone’s interested, maybe we could get in touch with Dr. Brekken and see if he’d give the CoP a brief overview some time next term?
Hello Everyone, I am in junior design group number 11, we’ve been assigned the Two Band Audio Visualizer. We’ve been asked to reach out to some COPs in to start to network and I saw this one and was quite interested since I plan on going into an Energy focus in my senior year. I was wondering if there were any upcoming meetings or events?
Next meeting is Thursday, 3/7/19, at 1pm in KEC 1007!
Hi,
We are going to have the meeting on this Thursday at KEC 1007.
Thank you,
Hello, I am Zongzhe. Could you please give me some advice about design an enclosure?
Currently, I am trying to build a module that contains a microcontroller and flow meter to measure the flow rate. Therefore, my module needs to be waterproof or anti-water. What kind of materials of the enclosure, or enclosure design do you think is good.
I think you can find some potting compounding and put on your PCB board. It can help you build a waterproof PCB board. In addition, you can build a waterproof enclosure. You can use the hot glue to help plug up all the hole in the enclosure.
You might try using ABS and acetone smoothing, the acetone melts it and bonds the layers together better and makes it more water proof.
In the presentation, I learned some information about cooling systems and build a good enclosure. In the third meeting, we talked some about the 3D printer. Can we use other application to draw our enclosure? Is the filename extension must be STL?
Our team hopes to get a generator that requires AC, three-phase, and synchronization. And it can be small enough. I hope to get a good suggestion
I don’t know much about that. However, I believe whatever you want to make, you need to clear every part that you need to do. Try to draw some mind map or block diagram. You will figure out what is the right approach.
I missed the last meeting, and is Solidwork the only software we use?
No, I believe that we can make 3D with our favorite software.
I use Fusion 360. It is a 3D CAD program that is free for hobbyist.
Wow… that is one suh-weeeeet program. Mind meetin’ up later to show me the ropes?
I missed the first meeting, but I believe they discussed using AutoCAD for 2D drafting.

How do you report a post?
Report received… and discarded.
I love this! Tattoo…?
Do you guys have any good tutorial material for Solidworks? I know nothing about Solidworks so far. Thank you.
Here are some tutorials resource: https://www.solidworks.com/sw/resources/solidworks-tutorials.htm
I will also try to make a simple example video that create an easy part.
