CVM leads the way in campus clean up

August 11th, 2011

In the towering barn on Washington Way owned by the College of Veterinary Medicine, Terry Robertson, facilities coordinator for Veterinary Medicine, stood in a cloud of dust as workers dragged boxes past him on the wide barn floor. “The issue of storage is huge on campus,” Robertson said. “It’s an effort to just keep what we need to keep and get rid of what we don’t.”

OSU Health Sciences Camp students dissect eyeballs at CVM

July 19th, 2011

Organized by Precollege Programs at OSU, 45 high school students from around the state came to participate in a GEAR UP Health Sciences Camp at OSU in June. As part of this camp, the students toured the College and attended activities related to veterinary medicine. Divided into two groups, the young high schoolers, who have completed 9th grade, participated in an eyeball dissection activity lead by Dr. Christiane Löhr, anatomic pathologist at the CVM and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Dr. Löhr discussed the normal anatomy and functions of the eye and provided an opportunity for the students to dissect and examine normal eyeballs. To further illustrate the importance of vision in daily life, Dr. Löhr also presented eyeballs as examples of disease commonly seen in domestic animals and discussed the problems and consequences associated with damage to the eye. The activity was a huge success as shown by the comments of the students who participated.
