MacVicar Scholar Broughton To Speak On Feline Immunodeficiency

Broughton1Heather Broughton will give a talk on conservation issues affecting African lions living in Kruger National Park, South Africa, and the role of co-infection in the prevalence of pathogens like feline immunodeficiency.

Broughton is a 2016 MacVicar Scholar in the CVM Graduate Program.

The presentation will be Thursday, May 26th, 1:00 p.m., in Magruder 298.

Pet Day May 7th

PetDayPet Day is one of the most popular events in Corvallis! There are lots of fun activities including a petting zoo, teddy bear surgery, dog wash, dog agility demos, veterinary hospital tours and more. Numerous booths will be staffed by vendors and volunteers who provide information on animal health and wellness, nutrition, adoption and therapy. Other booths sell animal-related products and gifts. There will also be  llamas, goats, greyhounds, and reptiles!

Pet Day is on Saturday, May 7, 10 am – 4 pm on the grounds of Magruder Hall. It is free and open to the public. A few activities like the Fun Run, Photo Booth, and Dog Wash have nominal fees.

Pet Day is created, organized and staffed by students in the College of Veterinary Medicine at OSU.

Employee Appreciation Awards

The Exemplary Service Award for Professional Faculty was given to Alanna McPartlin and Jason Wiest. The Outstanding Staff Award for Classified Employees was given to Melanie Garrett and Scott Normandin.

Welcome New Dean’s Office Staff

HeatherVGHeather Pedersen recently joined the Dean’s Office staff as an Administrative Program Assistant. She will be responsible for the Pet Memorial Program, and for supporting the work of the Student Services Coordinator, among many other duties.

Heather’s previous position was in the Seed Certification Deptartment at OSU where she analyzed grass seed tests, monitored certification standards, and did administrative work. She is working on a degree in Business Management and Administration through Southwestern Oregon Community College but plans to transfer to OSU to finish.

Heather grew up in Brookings and has been married to her best friend Tyler for five years. They have three wonderful pets.

Heather loves to paint (mostly oil and acrylic), run, hike, camp, read, and watch movies. She likes up-cycle home remodeling, gardening, and thrift store shopping. “I love anything cats, Jane Austin books, Star Trek, coffee, and anything coconut!” she says.

MaryMary McKillop is the new Events and Alumni Relations Coordinator. She will also support student organizations and help with scholarship coordination.

Mary’s previous position was as an Event and Marketing Manager in the OSU College of Business.

Mary is from Davis, California and went to University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and to Simons College. Her favorite things are skiing, participating in dog agility with her Border Collie, Hazel, hiking, biking and watching her son compete in snowboarding.
