Four student ambassadors from OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Sarah Tauber, Karyn Zittel, Michael Glynn and Paul Schiffgens, visited several classes at Elmira High School on December 15, 2009. In presenting a personal view of what made each of them choose the path towards a career in veterinary medicine, they gave the high school students an insight into the profession that they could not receive from a book. Their visit was much appreciated as part of Elmira High School’s goal to provide its students with the opportunity for learning academic and social skills.

New emergency generator being lowered into place outside Dryden Hall

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, a 60 Hz, 200 KW diesel generator manufactured by Kohler was delivered to Dryden Hall and placed on a pad just north of the building. Saturday, Jan. 9, temporary power was rigged so that the generator could be installed and power would remain on in Dryden Hall during the installation process. Over the next two to three weeks, trenches will be dug, conduit installed, and the work approved by City of Corvallis inspectors. The goal is to have the emergency generator operationalby the first of February. The generator will have sufficient capacity to keep Dryden Hall fully functioning during a normal power outage and will come on automatically when it senses loss of primary power. This completes the College plan to have emergency power available for all College of Veterinary Medicine main buildings: Dryden, Magruder (including the Isolation and Treadmill buildings), Veterinary Research Laboratory, and VMAIL.
