The OSU-CVM Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) will host its first Oregon Leadership Experience and Dedicated Service (OLEADS) event. Drs. Richard DeBowes and Betsy Charles, two of the current leaders of the Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE), will lead this event on the Sept. 30-Oct. 2 weekend. The overall goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for participants to learn and apply the basic principles of successful servant leadership and underlying philosophy of leadership, demonstrated through characteristics and practices, such as awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, growth, and community building. This three-day event consists of an interactive curriculum, including a series of lecture presentations, group activities, and peer-to-peer collaboration. It emphasizes servant-leadership, emotional intelligence, teamwork, and communication. An array of learning formats will be presented for experiential learning that empower participants to take responsibility for their preferred future.
SCAVMA is excited to invite you to participate in this event. “We believe that this will be an invaluable opportunity to begin the academic year in the spirit of leadership and community building, establishing new relationships with students, faculty, and staff while having a blast!,” Giovanna Coto emailed. They ask that participants register as early as possible, prior to September 27. Registration is available online on the SCAVMA OLEADS website. Continuing education credits will be available. For more information please visit the SCAVMA OLEADS website or contact the OLEADS committee at SCAVMAEvents@oregonstate.edu.
