Get yourself out of your comfort zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lillybridge and Scallon were among seven students who took part in a panel discussion in January aimed at encouraging others to study abroad. The panel also included Aaron LaVigne, who studied in Denmark; Cristina Juarez-Hernandez (Thailand); Elyse Hathaway (Germany); Fiona Bai (Spain); Arseniy Goldberg (Czech Republic) and Phung Mach (South Korea).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2914\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2914\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/business\/files\/2015\/03\/IMG_2608.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2914\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/business\/files\/2015\/03\/IMG_2608-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Haley Lillybridge, with the ruins of Pompeii in the background.\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2914\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Haley Lillybridge, with the ruins of Pompeii in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For Lillybridge, Accademia Italia fulfilled a five-year-old aspiration that originated with an 11-day tour to Switzerland, Italy and France that she took while a junior in high school in Bremerton, Wash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just a quick view of everything, and Florence was my favorite city,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted to come back; I always had that goal to live abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She took five courses in Italy \u2013 history of 20<sup>th<\/sup> century fashion, history of Tuscany, advanced Italian, graphic design, and screen printing \u2013 and visited 11 countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a cold-weather person, so I went north and west,\u201d said Lillybridge, who\u2019s the president of the OSU snowboarding club, C.ORE Freeride, and aspires to a career in the technical design of winter outerwear.<\/p>\n<p>Scallon\u2019s interests, meanwhile, lie in surfwear product development \u2013 she\u2019s from Burbank, Calif. \u2013 and she also had five classes in Florence: photographing Florence, fashion illustration, Italian, collections, and history of fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Her photography class included stops at places such as the home of Michelangelo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a museum pass that allowed us to go to basically any museum in Florence,\u201d said Scallon, who two months after returning still thinks about her trip every day.<\/p>\n<p>She advises students considering going abroad to \u201cjust do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t have fear,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019ll learn a lot about yourself.
