We have mobilized experts from across the agency to help contain  the spreading oil spill and protect the Gulf of Mexico\u2019s many marine  mammals, sea turtles, fish, shellfish and other endangered marine life.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Along with monitoring and predicting the oil&#8217;s trajectory and providing detailed weather forecasts to officials attempting to contain the spill and clean up the oil, the agency is providing aircraft and\u00a0 marine mammal spotters from its Southeast  Fisheries Science Center to assess what species might come into contact with the oil,\u00a0 and using experimental satellite data from their Satellite Analysis Branch to survey the extent of spill-related marine  pollution.<\/p>\n<p>The site contains up-to-date predictions of the oil&#8217;s trajectory and maps showing the path of the layers of oil floating on the ocean surface.\u00a0 It also includes links to the official\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/deepwaterhorizonresponse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Deepwater Horizon Joint Information Center<\/a>, which has detailed information about the spill containment and recovery effort, including information for volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Joint Information Center is also distributing information about the effort via\u00a0 social networking sites, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DeepwaterHorizonResponse?ref=search&amp;sid=1554732883.743998184..1\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Oil_Spill_2010\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/deepwaterhorizonresponse\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flickr <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/deepwaterhorizonjic\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has launched a new Web site for information about the Deepwater Horizon oilspill in the Gulf of Mexico.
