{"id":3224,"date":"2015-05-15T09:12:42","date_gmt":"2015-05-15T16:12:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/breakingwaves\/?p=3224"},"modified":"2015-05-15T09:12:42","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T16:12:42","slug":"communications-manager-applicants-sought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/breakingwaves\/2015\/05\/15\/communications-manager-applicants-sought\/","title":{"rendered":"Communications manager applicants sought"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oregon Sea Grant is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time position leading its communications team in developing products and strategies that <span id=\"di_20101\">interpret Sea Grant-funded research, support the program&#8217;s administration and contribute to outreach and engagement activities which help inform and engage the public in learning, discussing and acting on ocean and coastal issues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"di_20007\">At minimum, candidates should have<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">Specialized skill in science writing, graphic design, or multi-media development<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">A bachelor&#8217;s degree, or equivalent work experience, in a communications related field, with an emphasis on science communications. A master&#8217;s degree is preferred<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">At least five years relevant work experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">Evidence of experience supervising or leading other communications professionals<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">Evidence of actively engaging personnel in development, planning and implementation of project communications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">Effective written and oral communication skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"di_20007\">Demonstrated ability to represent complex scientific or environmental concepts in a way that will excite interest and can be understood by the various audiences as appropriate. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"di_35142\">Based at the Oregon Sea Grant office on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, OR, the communications manager is expected to travel as needed to the Hatfield Marine Scence Center  Visitor Center in Newport, OR, and to other project locations on the Oregon coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Duties include planning and development of <span id=\"di_25131\">print, digital media and other communication projects,\u00a0scholarly activities supporting the science of science communication,\u00a0<span id=\"di_20101\">managing media relations, and overseeing a team that, among other duties supports special projects of the National Sea Grant Network and oversees exhibit design for our HMSC Visitor Center in Newport.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For full details and to apply, <a href=\"http:\/\/jobs.oregonstate.edu\/applicants\/Central?quickFind=66849\">see the posting on the OSU Jobs site<\/a>.
