I am a scientist with over 20 years of experience in research and project/program management. I received my B.S. in Zoology and Physiology from Louisiana State University and my Ph.D. in the field of Chemical Carcinogenesis (Molecular Biology/Biophysics) within the Division of Biological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.
My current research is focused in biomineralization, nanoscience and toxicology. My collaborators in CBEE and I had an NSF-EFRI grant to explore diatoms as a photosynthetic biorefinery. My publications can be found at this link. I also serve as an ad hoc reviewer for the American Chemical Society and a panel reviewer for USDA NIFA (in nanotechnology) proposals.
I currently serve as the Director of Research Development in the College of Science. Previously, I was the Managing Director for the Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry, a large (>$25M) NSF funded Center for Chemical Innovation. Prior to CSMC, I served as Assistant Director for the Safer Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing Initiative (SNNI), a virtual Center funded by the Air Force Research laboratory ($20M) though ONAMI. During this time, I participated in the development of the International Standards Organization TC 229 (ISO/TC 229) to develop terminology for nanotechnology. Before that, I managed a large ARO MURI ($15M) and I’ve also worked in Industry.
