Yueh-Lin Loo, Research Professor, Chemical Engineer, Material Scientist
The idea of new age homes with color changing wall paper, energy generating windows, and portable health monitors have been associated with the future. With the help of Yueh-Lin Loo the future will not be that far away. Yueh-Lin or Lynn has spent her academic life trying to improve everyone’s quality of life. Since her birth in Malaysia and education at Taipei American School then college at University of Pennsylvania she has pursued a degree in both Material Science and Chemical Engineering (Yueh-Lin Loo). She then developed a technique called nanotransfer printing, which meant that thin-film electronic devices could be developed using organic compounds such as plastics (Chemical Engineer and Biologist Make List of World’s Top Young Innovators). This invention then means that cheaper, lighter, non-toxic, and flexible plastics and other organic material that could be more easily incorporated into daily life rather than heavy metals such as silicon (Chemical Engineer and Biologist Make List of World’s Top Young Innovators). Her invention has drastically expanded the world of electronics and created many more possibilities and opportunities with which human lives could be improved.
