{"id":2281,"date":"2014-02-24T23:09:53","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T23:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pharmacy.oregonstate.edu\/blogs\/news\/?p=2281"},"modified":"2014-02-24T23:09:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-24T23:09:53","slug":"claude-gerlach-34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/beaverx\/2014\/02\/24\/claude-gerlach-34\/","title":{"rendered":"Claude Gerlach (&#8217;34)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Claude Theodore Gerlach, of Springfield, Oregon died January 19, 2014 at the age of 100.\u00a0 Claude was born in Philomath, Oregon, April 4, 1913.\u00a0 He attended a one-room country school in North Bend, graduated from Coquille High School, and in 1934 graduated from the School of Pharmacy at Oregon State College, where he met his wife to be, Dorothy Holly. They were married in 1937.\u00a0 After working as a pharmacist for four years he purchased a Springfield drug store at the corner of 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and Main Streets later known as Gerlach\u2019s Drug Store.\u00a0 Claude had two children, Raymond and Janet.<\/p>\n<p>Claude was mayor of Springfield 1945-1948.\u00a0 Ed Harms, former mayor, credited Claude \u201cwith being the father of modern city government in Springfield.\u201d Claude contributed greatly to the developing community in Springfield.
