Ruth Stevens Ph.D. (‘92)
For those of you who don’t know me, I am Ruth Stevens, PhD (‘92), MBA and Chief Scientific Officer and Executive VP of Camargo Pharmaceutics. This past May I had the opportunity to visit the OSU College of Pharmacy and meet the faculty and current graduate students during a two-day visit. I want to share with you how impressed I was by the graduate program and the current College of Pharmacy students. If you have a chance, please get to know the current OSU graduate students and professors. They are amazing and their research is top-notch. You can share your pharmaceutical experience with these graduate students and professors just as Drs. Ayres, Block, Christensen, DeLander, Gerwick, Murray, and Schultz, and many others, shared with you. In that spirit, I believe that it is time for us, the OSU graduate alumni both nationally and internationally, to give back to Oregon State University and the College of Pharmacy graduate program.
Below are ways for us to collectively give back:
- Be an Alumni Guest Speaker: Are you interested in sharing your expertise with current graduate students? If so, please contact the Chair of the Department, Dr. Theresa Filtz, and let her know your career accomplishments, interests, and passions.
- Alumni Speaker Support: Help bring alumni back to OSU and the College of Pharmacy to share insights with current graduate students. For each speaker, airfare, two nights in a hotel, meals and transportation costs about $1500. Consider making a donation to defray these costs.
- College of Pharmacy, Graduate Student Endowed-Fellowship Fund: Help create an endowment to fund a graduate student through their entire program. We want to recruit and retain the brightest Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate students. Please consider helping to fund an endowment to support graduate students through completion of their program, perhaps in honor of our esteemed faculty advisors.
- College of Pharmacy Graduate Student and Faculty Research Fund: This is an unrestricted fund that allows the Dean to support graduate student and faculty research through mechanisms including pilot projects, travel awards and stipend support.
If you are interested in supporting faculty researchers and graduate students at the OSU/OHSU College of Pharmacy, please contact Theresa Filtz PhD, Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Theresa.Filtz@Oregonstate.edu or Paige Clark RPh (‘85), Director of Alumni Relations and Professional Development at Paige.Clark@Oregonstate.edu.
