2015 Clinical Skills Competition

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Clinical Skills Competition (ASHP CSC) is an annual competition that occurs at the beginning of the school year. The CSC is comprised of a 2-hour written assessment followed by oral presentation. Students from each class paired up into teams of two, representing both Corvallis and Portland campuses, to participate in CSC.

The written portion of the CSC was held on October 8, 2015 and the oral presentations were held on October 15, 2015. For the first part of the competition, pairs of students were presented with a patient case and asked to write a pharmacist care plan within the time limit of two hours.

The top 5 teams from the written portion advanced to the second round of the competition. The teams presented their written pharmacist care plan to a panel of eight pharmacist judges. The top 5 teams included three P4 teams and two P3 teams, providing this year’s competition to be an especially hard case for newcomers.

The final results after the oral presentation round were:

5th Place: P4 Team Jenna West & Brian Haggblom

4th Place: P3 Team LeDiem (Teresa) Pham & Dan Muongpack
3rd Place: P3 Team Victor Tran & Alexander Boyd
2nd Place: P4 Team William Dai & Sarah Louie
1st Place: P4 Team Patrick Brown & Kayla Ruhl Grzybowski
Keep an eye out for Part II of this story, as winners of our local ASHP CSC, Patrick Brown and Kayla Ruhl Grzybowski will attend the 50th ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in New Orleans, LA to compete in the national clinical skills competition on December 5-6, 2015.
