Professional Day 2018

On Saturday, April 14, 2018, students, faculty, alumni and friends of the college gathered for the 5th annual OSU College of Pharmacy Professional Day. This event provides OSU pharmacy students a chance to network with pharmacy leaders from various practice settings and to learn about the numerous career paths available within the pharmacy profession.

The day began with the Entrepreneurial Academy business case presentations in which two teams presented their business plans intended to be applied to an existing pharmacy business as an add on service. The teams focused their proposals on topics related to increasing access to smoking cessation therapies and skin care counseling.  The judging panel included Kevin Russell (’93), Amy Burns (’11), Lincoln Alexander (’15), Joe Ennesser and OSU College of Pharmacy faculty member Adriane Irwin.

Following the Business Case presentations, the event transitioned to the Pharmacy Professional Q&A Panel facilitated by the PharmD Enrichment and Professionalism Program Presentation (PEPP) coordinator Rachel Proteau (’20) and Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) student president, Tania Villanueva-Sanchez (’20). This activity provides students with an opportunity to ask questions from a group of distinct pharmacy professionals, each with a wide range of backgrounds including managed care pharmacy, ambulatory care pharmacy, long term care pharmacy, and retail pharmacy. The panel included Amy Burns (’11), Kari Norick (’99), Amber Barni, Jared Okerson (’13), Mariah Alford (’11), Doug Butler (’88), Kevin Smith (’16), and Genevieve Van Herk.

Following the Q&A panel, students broke out into 11 seperate groups and participated in a “speed dating” style event allowing students to have timed conversations with professionals about their career paths in pharmacy. The “Quick Conversations” event, facilitated by the OSU chapter of American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) student president, Devon Heisler (’20), allowed students to have a opportunity to interact with each of the pharmacy professionals who attended.

Thank you to our guests, our student facilitators Rachel Proteau (’20), Devon Heisler (’20), Zach Aalberg (’20), Tania Villanueva-Sanchez (’20) and to all who helped make this a successful event!
