On the evening of May 2nd, the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy alumni and friends gathered at Portland City Grill to honor the recipients of the 2016 Icons of Pharmacy Award as well as the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Zach McCall, an OSU College of Pharmacy 2006 alumnus, is the third to be recognized with this honor for his commitment and dedication to the profession of pharmacy.
Zach McCall (’06)
Zach received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from OSU College of Pharmacy in 2006, and has quickly distinguished himself as a remarkable young professional through his leadership and professional involvement. After completing a one-year Ambulatory Care Residency with Providence Medical Group, Zach went to work for Legacy Health. During his time at Legacy, Zach has overseen the growth and expansion of ambulatory services from 2 pharmacists and fewer than 30 outpatient clinics, to more than 20 FTE personnel providing pharmacy services in over 100 outpatient clinics.
As a professional, Zach is most interested in primary care, especially as it relates to chronic disease and pain management, transitional care models, encouraging patient empowerment, and furthering multidisciplinary integration of the health-care system. He has a passion for education and played a key role in the implementation of Legacy’s PGY2 Transitions of Care Residency program—amongst the first of its kind in the nation. Additionally, Zach is a preceptor for 4th year pharmacy students on clinical rotation.
Amid his work in the clinical arena, Zach’s professional involvement is also extensive. He is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP), having served in many leadership roles and on several committees. Most recently, Zach has been named the 2016-2017 OSHP President.
