ASHP 2015 Midyear Clinical Meeting

During the week of December 6-10, 2015, current OSU students, faculty, alums, and pharmacists from all across the country came together in New Orleans, LA for ASHP’s 2015 Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Students participated in the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Student Society Showcase. This is an opportunity for them to showcase one program, service, fundraiser, or other activity during the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. It provides Showcase participants the opportunity to share activity ideas and information with other pharmacy students who may or may not be involved in their school’s student society.

The OSU/OHSU Residency program hosted a booth during the Midyear meeting. Dr. Harleen Singh and Assistant Professor, Dr. Emily Ashjian, were there to interview 25 potential candidates. “Now that we have interviewed qualified candidates from all over the country, the next step will be to bring them to Portland for on-site interviews. It will be a perfect opportunity to showcase our residency program,” Dr. Singh said when asked about the purpose of their booth. “It was great to have Emily [Ashjian] at Midyear with me, as she will be the main preceptor at the Central City Concerns site and could answer the site-specific questions from candidates.”

Also in attendance was OSU/OHSU Associate Professor, Dr. Dan Hartung, who was there to recruit for his fellowship position. During his time there, he interviewed 18 potential candidates. When asked to describe his fellowship, he said, “It’s a two-year fellowship in pharmaceutical health research in collaboration with OHSU’s Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC). In year one, the fellow will be involved in some intensive didactics to build fundamental skills in clinical research. One of the unique aspects of my fellowship is the collaboration with OHSU’s EPC. Marian McDonagh is co-funding our fellowship, so the fellow will do systematic reviews for her group in year two.” He hopes, that at the end of the two-year fellowship, the graduating fellow would be successful in developing their own research program.
