Dr. Cherala Published

Dr. Ganesh Cherala and other researchers from OSU and OHSU were recently published in the European Journal of Pharmacology for their study of the effects of low birth rate on the metabolism of medications.

The study found that rats born between 18-20% underweight did not metabolize furosemide to the same extent as a rat born at normal weight. In human implications, this could mean adults who were born at a lower birth weight might need a higher dosage of a drug, as compared to an adult born at a normal birth weight.
