Penny Reher (’82) was recently awarded with the OSHP Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes and honors a qualified individual who has made outstanding, sustained contributions to professional pharmacy organizations or through the delivery of pharmacy services to the community during the past calendar year.

As Chief Pharmacy Officer for Samaritan Health Services, Penny is responsible for all pharmacies associated with Samaritan including pharmacies in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Lincoln City, and Newport. It is her responsibility to ensure all patients receive the absolute best pharmacy care possible. Additionally, Penny has been a member of the Oregon Board of Pharmacy since 2011 and has served as President for 2013-2014.

This residency program has not only benefited graduating PharmD students but has brought talented individuals to the organization and helped improve the overall quality of the department.

Winning the Distinguished Service Award is a humbling experience for Penny. The contributions of previous awardees to the profession of pharmacy are commendable and she feels honored to be part of such a distinguished group of professional. Dr. Dan Rackham (’08) who nominated Penny for the award says, “Penny inspired me to become a pharmacist. She is a tireless and compassionate leader. She has provided years of distinguished service to the profession of Pharmacy and I am happy that OSHP has recognized her service with the Distinguished Service Award. There is no leader more deserving.”
