Dr. Ali Olyaei Publishes Study on Over-Prescription of Statins

A recent study by Dr. Ali Olyaei, professor of pharmacotherapy, examines the inappropriate prescription of statins to patients with advanced kidney disease. His conclusions, published in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs and featured in a HealthCanal article, suggest that statins offer no beneficial value, and might even be detrimental to this patient population. Additionally, he suggests the drugs might offer very little help to those in the early stages of kidney disease, but by the time a patient has reached the later stages, the risks of taking statins far outweigh the benefits.
