During the last two days of their rotation with Wellpartner, P4 students Allen Lee and Amber Johnson worked with alum Larry Cartier, Class of ’74, Vice President of Pharmacy at Wellpartner, Inc., to create a short patient safety video. The video, titled “Medication Safety: You and Your Pharmacist” premiered on February 15, 2012 at the Board of Pharmacy’s public meeting and was very well received.
The video project provides patients with a “checklist” of things they can do to improve outcomes and it solicits their engagement in therapy. The list of helpful hints was a direct result of the research conducted by Allen and Amber and included some preventable medication error reports that have come before the Board of Pharmacy. As Larry explains: “If we can simply make sure that patients read their prescription label to confirm that the prescription is actually for them, the directions are consistent with what they have been told, the contents are the same as the product description on the Rx label, and if they have questions they ask their pharmacist, it would go a log way to prevent medication errors.”
According to Larry, Allen and Amber were integral to the production of the video. Relying on Allen’s technical expertise, the group was able to move the project from creating a script to production and video editing in just two days with fabulous results!
