I find myself more eager to check discussion boards than the blog. I check the blog once a week and seem to check the discussion board every other day. There is just something about it. I am not sure if I will ever come to grasp the blog thing fully. I’m not sure exactly what i have against blogs. Maybe I struggle with the idea because it is a new idea to me and I am just being hard headed and don’t want to go with the change. I believe that the blog and discussion boards are identical they just have a different name. I almost believe it is the thought of a blog being out there for all to see as the hardest thing to grasp. I am not sure if a blog will really be more meaningful to me in my pursuit of my degree. I have never been a blogger and don’t really like to keep a journal. I have never been a big writer so a journal in my mind is an extra task that is going to take up more of my time.
I feel the same way about the discussion boards over the blog. I check my discussion boards in my classes almost every day. The only time I check our blog page is when it is in our weekly assignments. I have never useds a blog before this class. I don’t think I will post any thing in a blog unless it is for a class I’m in. I don’t see the point in being a blogger.
I think I understand – the discussion board is more intimate, while blogging can feel a little forced? I often want to blog something, but I’m not sure if it is class appropriate – because it is for the class, but it is also public. If you aren’t a big writer, then this sure can seem tedious! I think it’s pretty great that you are being honest and that you’re still trying to keep up with it, regardless. You never know unless you’ve tried and it’s definitely okay to decide something is not for you! I think this might be less hard-headedness and more just-ain’t-my-thingness 🙂
I think that, especially as “non-tradiional” online learners, the idea of adding “one more thing” to our already over-whelmed schedules and to-do lists is not at all appealing:) If we don’t see somehing as particularly helpful, time-saving, or fun – it isn’t likely to be something we will continue:) I agree with the other reply – I don’t think this is “hard-headedness” either… just a realistic knowledge of what works for you and what doesn’t!
