{"id":190,"date":"2011-06-07T09:14:34","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T16:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/99house\/?p=190"},"modified":"2011-06-07T09:14:34","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T16:14:34","slug":"happy-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/99house\/2011\/06\/07\/happy-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sure, why not&#8230;\u00a0 It took long enough to get here.\u00a0 After an extremely rainy spring it has been nice to have weather decent enough to work outside in.<\/p>\n<p>So to kick off the season we started with gravel delivery from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenandwhiterock.com\/\">Green and White<\/a>.\u00a0 They delivered 12 yards of gravel for much less than I expected.\u00a0 Their driver was talented, too.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gNee-xYpMVA\">Check out the video of him spreading the load.<\/a> (Turn down the volume if you watch the YouTube video, Elsea was a little excited by the big truck!)<\/p>\n<p>If you have gravel delivered, don&#8217;t skip the compacting process though.\u00a0 For $33 I rented a compactor that leveled this spread into an almost concrete-like surface.<\/p>\n<p>We needed some gravel on the advice that it&#8217;s a good product to use to set in fence posts.\u00a0 Baah, use a bag of concrete.\u00a0 We couldn&#8217;t get the gravel packed in there tight enough.<\/p>\n<p>We had redwood delivered from a guy based less than 40 minutes from here   (name and contact info to be posted after the final delivery).\u00a0   Harvested locally and processed locally&#8230; it feels good.\u00a0 It&#8217;s so   fresh, that you get a pioneer feeling as one cuts and assembles it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/99house\/files\/2011\/06\/fence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-195\" title=\"fence\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/99house\/files\/2011\/06\/fence-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/144\/files\/2011\/06\/fence-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/144\/files\/2011\/06\/fence.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Right now we&#8217;re more than half way done with the 200 feet of fence that we&#8217;re installing.\u00a0 We started off by renting a post hole auger.\u00a0 Get the kind with two wheels and it&#8217;s pretty easy to drill a lot of holes quickly.\u00a0 23 in just a little over an hour, to be exact.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Diane for catching us with this drive-by photo shoot.\u00a0 If you look really close you can see my fingers holding the level in place.\u00a0 Yep, my job is to hold the level and the board&#8230; over and over, and over.\u00a0 I get the quiet side of the deal, though!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sure, why not&#8230;\u00a0 It took long enough to get here.\u00a0 After an extremely rainy spring it has been nice to have weather decent enough to work outside in.
