About Me

Hey there!

My name is Rhonda and I love most aspects of nature!   I am beginning a new chapter in life, as a NPS Park Ranger and graduate student.   …but let me back up a little and do a quick recap of the first couple of chapters.

I served in the US Navy as an electronics technician in the cryptologic field for just under 13 years. Met and married my Navy husband, then chose to separate to become a military wife and stay at home/homeschool mom. We currently live in TX. I was a home educator for 18 years, deciding to go to college to finish my undergraduate degree when my youngest started high school. In June of 2015 we both graduated; he graduated high school and I graduated from OSU with my Natural Resources Management degree.  I am now enrolled in the Wildlife Management Graduate Certificate program…but that may change…

During my undergrad years, I worked two summers as a Resource Education Intern in Great Smoky Mtns, on the NC side and later became a Certified Interpretive Guide. I am currently (through August 2016) working as seasonal Interpretive Park Ranger at Lyndon B Johnson National Historic Park, in Johnson City TX.  Aside from giving tours of the historic building and elementary school outreaches, I am a member of the Parks social media team. So I am an educator, just a non-traditional one.

hhhmmm….now, something fun…

My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary this fall and we wanted to do something very ‘us’. The past several anniversaries we have chosen to hike versus going out for fancy dinners. Staying in that vein for the 30th, we will be completing the “14 State Challenge” along the Appalachian Trail; driving the length of the trail stopping to complete a day hike in all of the 14 states that the AT passes through.

Here’s a picture of us hiking to Numa Ridge Lookout from the base of Bowman Lake on Glacier National Park, summer 2015.
