Research in the Goyer lab aims to understand genetic and environmental factors that control folate and thiamin accumulation in crop foods such as potato and rice to find strategies that maximize the nutritional content of crops. In addition, research aims to further understand the interactions between potato and Potato Virus Y (PVY), a pathogen that is currently threatening the potato industry, and to identify control methods against PVY. Research involves a combination of molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and metabolite profiling approaches in potato, Arabidopsis and rice.
